The Hellerud area has been central in the development of Norwegian agriculture after World War II, through the establishment of a Seed Center and a Roughage Center in the area, in collaboration with the Norwegian College of Agriculture, Tine, and Norsk Hydro. Norges Vel became the owner of Hellerud in 1947. Norges Vel first established an outdoor exhibition area in the area at the beginning of the 1980s. In 1986, the warehouse halls by Nitelva were established. The first exhibition gathered 140 exhibitors, on 22,000 square meters and the number of visitors reached 25,000. The exhibition “Landbruksveka” was organized here for many years. After the construction of the exhibition hall in 2002, the new owners wanted to develop the exhibition area with larger and better indoor exhibition areas in combination with associated opportunities for outdoor exhibition. There was also a desire to improve the parking situation in the area. During this period, Norsk Hyttesenter was established with several exhibition cabins.
The hotel was built in 2017 and the conference facility was established on its own floor, seamlessly with the large halls and with “dry-footed” access to the hotel. Since then, several display cabins have been established and the cabin center has further developed an industry center for cabin furnishings in the northeast on the plot. In 2019, Phase II for the hotel was completed with a total of 436 rooms.
The conference center appeared as a seamless universe with the exhibition halls in 2017.
